THE BALLOON – Without Gazprom, Schalke sees jersey sales soar (Germany)

After Russia invaded Ukraine, Schalke decided to break the long-standing sponsorship deal with Gazprom. Instead of the name of the largest Russian natural gas company, the German emblem placed the name in the central part of the shirt.

A change that aroused particular interest. In the second division, Schalke have made 7,000 copies of the new shirt available for €69.95 and demand has far exceeded supply from the club’s online store.

Figures which make it possible to mitigate the financial loss of 9 million euros guaranteed this year by Gazprom alone. A value that would reach 15 million euros if it went up.
