Written by admin

In March, the Brazilian Society of Digestive Endoscopy (SOBED) and the Brazilian Society of Coloproctology (SBCP) carry out the Blue March campaign, which aims to raise awareness among the population, health professionals, managers and decision-makers about the importance diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) and encourage prevention.

About colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is the third most deadly type of cancer in the country. The risk of a person developing the disease is 4.3% and it is more common in men and women over the age of 45 or in people who have cases in the family.

In Brazil, colorectal cancer affects more than 40,000 people a year. With the aging of the population, it is estimated that the number of deaths from the disease will increase until 2025.

It is also very worrying that 85% of colorectal cancer cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, when the chances of a cure are lower. However, if discovered at an early stage, the chances of cure can be as high as 95%.

It is recommended that people without risk factors for colorectal cancer begin regular screening at age 45.
