MediaTek launches provocation claiming Qualcomm’s dominance may have ended

Written by admin

With the launch of the Dimensity 8000 processor, Mediatek returns to the charge in the segment of the most advanced smartphones and relaunches the fight for leadership in the segment.

But the war of words also seems to be coming to life again, after a senior MediaTek official said Qualcomm’s dominance may have come to an end.

MediaTek attacks Qualcomm’s leadership in the premium smartphone segment

It was on the first day of March that MediaTek unveiled the new Dimensity 8000 series processors that manage to position themselves in the segment of more advanced smartphones, similar to the Dimensity 9000 counterpart also from MediaTek and which was launched at the end of last year.

This is yet another attempt by the brand to penetrate said market segment, positioning itself to “attack” Qualcomm’s leadership. But it is not only on the “field” that the two brands are engaged in a fierce battle, since in the media too, the company’s managers periodically exchange a few provocations.

This time, it was Chen Junhong, deputy director of MediaTek, who said in an interview that Qualcomm’s dominance in the core mobile processor market may have come to an end. It was a very clear allusion to the Dimensity 9000 processor and its positioning in the market.

In fact, recently several news have also shown that MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000 will have already surpassed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in some benchmark tests, which has contributed to greater competitiveness in the high-end smartphone segment.

In the same interview, the head of MediaTek also took the opportunity to draw attention to the new Dimensity 8000 processor which arrives to provide a “flagship experience in scenarios such as games, images and communication”.

Dimensity 8000 and Dimensity 8100 are not intended for flagships

The same manager also argues that the two new processors are not intended for each brand’s flagship smartphones, but rather for the high-end segment which is positioned immediately after.

Recall that the Dimensity 8100 is an octa-core unit, where four cores are Cortex A78 at 2.85 GHz while in the Dimensity 8000 the same cores max out at 2.75 GHz. It should be noted that both processors share the build process and 5nm.
