Xiaomi Mi Band 7: the 4 big news of the new smartband

The Xiaomi Mi Band has been the queen of smart bracelets for several years now. This understated wearable from the Chinese manufacturer is on the wrists of millions of users, and there’s always a lot of buzz surrounding news of a new release.

The latest generation, the Mi Band 6, has finally brought a full-screen experience to the smartband, but that’s not all. This one brought the long-awaited SpO2 sensor, more dedicated workout modes, and details like flashlight mode. But what to expect from a future model?

Screen always on and GPS on the way to Xiaomi Mi Band 7

A leak revealed by XDA-Developers reveals that the Xiaomi Mi Band 7 can take a big step forward. In addition to a larger screen, it can have always-on display functionality, built-in GPS and smart alarm functionality.

The source of the information is the Logger website, known for revealing details about these wearable devices in the past. This one will have the code name “L66”, and a screen with a resolution of 190 by 490 pixels.

As you can see in the image shared above, one of the big news should be always-on display support for some watch faces. These will be quite simple, so that the user can see the time without involving large battery costs for the AMOLED screen of the same.

The source also talks about the possibility of it coming with built-in GPS. But we have to look at this possibility with some reservations, because the initial firmware talked about it for the Mi Band 6, and it was ultimately not confirmed.

Smart alarm and new power saving mode in the equation

As for the smart alarm functionality, it can work very similarly to other wearable devices. It can wake the user up to 30 minutes before the chosen alarm time in light sleep, so the process is simplified.

The source also mentions that the smartband will have a new power saving mode, which can increase battery life. This is something that could be very welcome, as the always-on screen or the built-in GPS will play in the opposite direction.

The Mi Band 6 was presented in March last year, so we expect news from Xiaomi about the new model soon.
