Your new WiFi 7 chip

FastConnect 7800 is Qualcomm’s first WiFi 7 chip

THE Qualcomm surprised everyone and everything, especially its main competitor, MediaTek, which was accumulating demonstrations of the WiFi 7. Chipmaker Snapdragon took advantage of Mobile World Congress to announce the Fast Connect 7800the first commercial solution that integrates Wi-Fi 7 technology.

Even louder, Qualcomm has revealed that its FastConnect 7800 chip will be available to OEMs in the second half of this year…while WiFi 6 is still a long way from minimum implementation.

The Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 offers maximum theoretical speeds of 5.8 Gbit/s on the 6 GHz band, all with a latency of less than 2 milliseconds. The chip can have 4 streams simultaneously… or 16 streams on Wi-Fi 7. Outside of the 6GHz band, the FastConnect 7800 provides 240MHz in the 5GHz frequency band.

Of course, the chip is also compatible with Wi-Fi 6 and 6E standards on the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands via DBS (Dual-Band Simultaneous Stream). It also supports Bluetooth LE Audio, Bluetooth 5.3, Dual Bluetooth and ANT+. As a reminder, Bluetooth 5.3 doubles the signal range (compared to Bluetooth 4.0) with compatible accessories.

Finally, it’s a small paradox that is repeated every time a new WiFi standard comes out, the Wi-Fi Alliance has not yet finalized all the features of WiFi 7… which has not however prevented Qualcomm to launch.
