THE BALL – Sporting beats CAB Madeira closely and continues in the Cup (Basketball)

Sporting beat CAB Madeira away at the Pavilhão Clube Amigos do Basquete, Funchal, 86-83 in a tightly contested round of 16 game in the Portuguese Basketball Cup.

The Madeirans surprised the lions by reaching the end of the first period to win by 19-13, however, in the second period, the green and white formation had a strong reaction and ended this winning phase by 17-27, which allowed the visitors to reach the break with a 32-40 lead.

The third period saw a draw with 23 points, leaving everything open for the fourth and decisive period, CAB Madeira winning 24-23, still insufficient to create a surprise in the Portuguese Cup.

The partial result of the second half was 47-46, however, it can be concluded that the second period of the match was decisive for Sporting to get the victory.

It should be added that the top scorer and figure of the match was the American James Southerland, of CAB Madeira, with 20 points, assisted by his compatriot from Sporting Joshua Patton, with 16 points.
