A former footballer died after being attacked outside a nightclub in Famalicão

The 21-year-old man who was attacked in the early hours of Sunday during an argument outside a nightclub in Vale São Cosme, Vila Nova de Famalicão, has died, a police source told Lusa on Tuesday.

Hugo Ribeiro was a footballer at Vilanovense and played for clubs such as Leixões and Rio Ave at beginner and junior level.

According to the source, the victim had been transported, in serious condition, to Braga hospital, but did not survive his injuries.

On Sunday, a source from the Famalicenses volunteer fire department told Lusa that the alert was given at 5:20 a.m. and the man was found lying outside the nightclub in the Braga district.

About the source of the injury, the source added that there are versions that the man “was hit with a parallel or with a bottle.”
