Manaus (morning) – With the aim of generating current knowledge and sensitizing girls and boys on the importance of the vaccine to prevent the human papillomavirus (HPV), the graduate of the graduate program in public health nursing (ProEnSP) and member of the Laboratory of Technologies for Work and Health Education, of the Universidade do Estado do Amazonas (Latted/UEA), the nurse Marília Muniz Cavalcante de Oliveira, on the basis of her master’s thesis, has developed an illustrated guide with technological information resources and scientific production with relevant topics on vaccination.
Entitled “The guide: say yes to the HPV vaccine”, the educational booklet is aimed at students aged 11 to 14 and students aged 9 to 14, in primary and secondary school – target audience for vaccination against the virus . In the leaflet, which also has a digital version in Spanish, students will find information about HPV infection and the relationship between the virus and cancer. The project was guided by Professor Elizabeth Teixeira; and co-director, Professor Kátia Luz Torres Silva.
This week, a pilot project of the guide was launched in partnership with the Fundação Centro de Controle de Oncologia do Estado do Amazonas (Fcecon) and the Municipal Department of Education of Manaus (Semed) to help teachers in the education network public or private, in the approach to the subject.
According to the author, the manual will be essential in clarifying internal conflicts, the doubts of parents or guardians and the target audience for the vaccine, as well as in reducing hesitation against the vaccinator, which causes public health services to reach not the vaccination targets, which is to vaccinate 80% of the population.
“The guide will be used by teachers who will hold conversations with the target audience on the subject, starting in secondary school classes for 13 and 14 year olds. After this stage, they will gradually introduce younger students,” explained Marília.
How was it developed?
The educational technology has been developed following all the scientific criteria for this type of product, in the following stages: integrative literature reviews (IRL); construction of the first version of the Guide (presented to the master’s qualification committee); construction of the 2nd version of the Guide (subject to the validation process of Health Specialist Judges (oncologist doctors and nurses, HPV specialists) and Specialist Judges in Other Fields (pedagogues and designers, specialists in Educational Technologies); construction of the 3rd version of the Guide (presented to the target audience for evaluation).
The project also has the support of the Government of Amazonas, the Secretary of State for Health of Amazonas (SES-AM), FCecon, the Network of Women Against Cancer of Amazonas (RFCC-AM) and of the Liga Amazonense Contra o Câncer (Lacc).
