O Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced, in the form of a communicated issued by the official platforms, this Tuesday, which received an appeal from the Russian Federation (FUR) “against the decision taken by FIFA and UEFA to suspend Russian teams and clubs from their respective competitions”.
“On appeal, the FUR asks the CAS to overturn the disputed decisions and to resume the participation of all Russian teams and clubs in FIFA and UEFA competitions,” reads this official note.
The organization says it has “started two separate arbitration processes”, so it will now “seek the position of the respective parties in relation to the FUR’s request for an injunction”, promising to make a final decision already “in the coming days”. ” .
The decision taken by FIFA and UEFA, it should be remembered, was based on the invasion of Russian military forces in Ukraine, which has lasted for more than a week, and which has already caused hundreds of deaths and also thousands of refugees.
As a result, the Russian team ended up being left out of the World Cup qualifiers, where they would face Poland. The same is true for Spartak Moscow, who had a duel with Leipzig in the round of 16 of the Europa League.
