The ‘trick’ to living longer (and better), according to experts – Lifestyle

A healthy diet is the key to increasing average life expectancy by up to 13 years, underlines a Norwegian study, published by the scientific journal Plos Medicine.

The researchers analyzed population groups from China, the United States and several European countries, with the aim of assessing how and whether certain foods influence average life expectancy between the age groups of 20, 40, 60 and 80 years old. The main changes were identified among those who replaced red and processed meats, refined grains and sugary drinks with a diet rich in whole grain versions, lean meats, fruits and nuts.

The foods that showed the most impact were nuts, legumes and whole grains.
