Health surveillance confirmed today, Friday 11, five more cases of dengue fever in Montenegro. With that, there are 9 confirmed cases since last week, eight of them in the central area of the city. The other case was registered in the neighborhood of Rui Barbosa. And another suspected case, which is under investigation, is said to be in the Senai district.

The Town Hall, through Surveillance, intensifies control, with agents visiting the premises. Also sound car to raise awareness and alert. In addition, the application of insecticide had been planned in the courtyards of certain residences of the center, at the end of the afternoon of this Friday 11. But due to rain, the application was postponed until next week. According to the health surveillance coordinator, Beatriz Garcia, Bia, the application of the insecticide should be delayed until Monday afternoon, depending on weather conditions. Bia also warns people to do their part, by avoiding standing water, garbage and using repellent, to prevent Dengue Fever and outbreaks of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which also transmits yellow fever, Chikungunya and Zica.

Beatriz, who has been fighting mosquitoes for twenty years, says we are living in an epidemic. “I’ve never seen it like that,” she warns, worried. He also deplores the difficulty of inspection, with some residents preventing officers from checking houses and patios. And cases of recidivism, including applied fines.

An 11-year-old child remains hospitalized with dengue fever. Among the symptoms, which began on Tuesday, included headache, fever, vomiting, nausea, body aches, stitches in the skin and pain behind the eyes. According to Bia, it is important that the population collaborates so that new cases are not confirmed in the city. “In one of the houses where outbreaks of mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti) were found, the amount of waste that was accumulating standing water was frightening,” he says. She says there is a lack of attention from some people who are unaware of the problem. “Dengue fever is a life-threatening disease. People need to be more careful to avoid even more proliferation of Aedes,” he stresses.

And the municipality, in fact, does not have very encouraging figures. Last year, Surveillance discovered, thanks to its endemic agents, 200 mosquito epidemics in the most diverse quarters of the city. This year the number has reached 90, and we are still in the first half of the third month of the year. “If it continues like this, 2022 will tend to be much worse than last year,” Beatriz points out. It is important to note that Montenegro is in the “epidemic” category of the disease.

Although very much dependent on the responsibility of each individual, at home, Health Surveillance has endeavored to try to curb the emergence of more mosquito breeding grounds. In addition to carrying out “blocking” actions near the residences of HIV-positive people, the sector concludes its simplified selection process, which aims to hire more endemic agents for the commune. The candidates have already taken the course, promoted by the Surveillance, and can even collect their certificate at the headquarters of the sector, at Rua Coronel Antônio Inácio, 92. The new agents, who will begin to be called in the next few days, will strengthen the Municipality in the quest to eliminate Aedes breeding sites.
