THE BALL – Nélson Oliveira on the podium of the fifth stage of Tirreno-Adriatic (Cycling)

Nélson Oliveira (Movistar) finished the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico in fourth position this Friday. The Portuguese cyclist was part of the breakaway, and came less than 15 seconds from Warren Barguil (Arkéa Samsic), winner of the stage which linked Sefro to Fermo. Xandro Meurisse (Alpecin-Fenix) and Simone Velasco (Astana) complete the podium.

In the general classification, Nélson Oliveira rose to 31st place. Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates) retains the lead in the standings, nine seconds ahead of Remco Evenepoel (QuickStep) and 43 seconds over Thymen Arensman (DSM).

The sixth stage is scheduled for this Saturday. There will be 215 kilometers between Apecchio and Carpegna.
