Antero Henrique was appointed sporting director of the Qatar Stars League, the country’s first football division, on Tuesday. “As part of a continuous development process aimed at raising the level of the teams and offering competitiveness, high quality football and entertainment, as well as reaching new standards of professionalism, the Portuguese Antero Henrique has been appointed Sporting Director of the Qatar Stars League”, can be read on the organization’s official website. Also according to the press release, the Portuguese “will also lead the main team of scouts in order to provide services and help clubs discover foreign coaches and professional players”. In other words, he will be in charge of scouting and will have the final say on hiring.
Antero Henrique, who has already held the position at FC Porto and Paris SG, assured that it was an “honor” to have been elected. “This organization is based on a clear vision, which motivated me from the first negotiations. We believe that we can maximize the strengths we already have, and work to raise the level of football and the brand.”
At PSG he was working with Nasser Al-Khelaifi and in a project strongly supported by Qatar so he already knew what he could pass on to QSL.
