O google recently acquired a company specializing in the manufacture of microLED with emphasis on augmented reality (AR). Movement is an indication that the the company is still interested in the segmentdespite the failure of google glasses. So far, the company has not revealed the value of the trade, but the latest valuation indicates that the company in question, the Raxium, has a market value of over US$1 billion.
When Google Glass was introduced, wearables, in general, weren’t yet a reality, and the technology needed to make smart glasses possible was very limited. As trial versions of the product had many problems in real use environments, mainly heating, the retail version of the product has been discontinued.
More and more companies are using products with AR elements to engage the consumer, and the current movement to create digital ecosystems that somehow integrate with reality is creating demand for new solutions. In addition to the application of microLEDs in VR/AR headsets and goggles, the technology is also used in smart glasses and panels.

The purchase of Raxium may represent a new venture for Google in the augmented reality segment, but in a movement towards the metaverse. The first Google Glass project, while looking very interesting, didn’t have much of a purpose other than a different experience. Already today, the applications of this technology respond to demands that are increasingly close to reality.
