THE BALL – Marcus Edwards: the return to England and the dream of the national team (Sporting)

Sporting’s victory over Tottenham (2-0), in the second round of Group D of the Champions League, ended up having a special meaning for Marcus Edwards. The 23-year-old winger faced the team where he completed all his training and left in 2019 to join Vitória de Guimarães.

“It’s strange to play against Tottenham, I was there a long time, but it was good to see some familiar faces. Now I feel at home here, it’s a family atmosphere and I couldn’t be happier “, he explained to BT Sports, also evoking the justice of the triumph of the greens and whites: “Winning like that, in the last minutes, after a difficult match, it feels good. We deserved it, we showed our quality and how we can make our system work”.

Marcus Edwards’ display didn’t go unnoticed in England and when asked about a possible return, the youngster didn’t shut the door. “Of course I’d like to go back, it’s my home,” he said laconically.

Finally, the dream of representing the English national team and the eventual trip to the 2022 World Cup.

“It’s not something that crosses my mind. I’m focused on what I’m doing here at Sporting and I don’t think about it. But yes, of course that would be great.
